How to cook a classic strudel with apples in the oven at home? The flour for the dough should be sifted, boil the water and cool to room temperature. Wash the apples; if you add raisins to the filling, pour boiling water over them for a few minutes and rinse. Now you can move on to the first step of the recipe.
-
Add flour and salt into a bowl and stir. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour water and vegetable oil into it. With gentle movements, begin to knead the dough, collecting flour from the edges to the center. When all the liquid is absorbed into the flour and the mass becomes thick, place it on a floured work surface and knead the dough with your hands. After this, gather the dough into a ball, grease it with vegetable oil and cover it in a hot bowl for 30-40 minutes, let it rest.
-
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Peel the apples and cut them into small thin slices. Place the slices in a large bowl, add lemon juice and grated lemon zest. Also add raisins if desired, pour in a tablespoon of cognac. Mix the filling.
-
Grease a baking dish with butter.
-
Roll out the dough into a thin rectangular layer and, lifting it from underneath with both hands, stretch it slightly in all directions from the middle to the edges.
-
Sprinkle the dough with breadcrumbs, place the apple filling on top, sprinkle it with sugar and, if desired, cinnamon or vanilla sugar.
-
Roll the dough into a log and carefully place it in the prepared pan.Brush the surface of the strudel with melted butter, if desired.
-
By the time the strudel is in a heat-resistant form, the oven should be preheated to 190 degrees. Bake the pie for 35 minutes. Grease the finished baked goods again with melted butter, if desired, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
